Individual History

Date of death: 5 June 1915
Date of burial: unknown.  Not interred in Linwood Cemetery.

Private George Pain Lattimore (service no 6/80) died at Gallipoli on the 5 June 1915 whilst serving with the 1st Canterbury Regiment no.6/80. His name is on the Lone Pine Memorial, at Gallipoli. (Memorial ref. 74).  He is not buried in Linwood Cemetery, only his name added to the family headstone.
George’s father died when he was only 4 years old.  He was the first of his siblings to go to war and was soon followed by two older brothers.  They returned home, but he gave his life for his country at the young age of 22yrs.
George was a talented young man; a rugby player, a sailor and a carpenter who had started his training to be an architect.
His name lived on though being given to Isabella’s son when he was born in 1916, David George Lattimore Davidson who sadly only lived to 39yrs but who like his uncle served his country in the Army in W.W.2.
