Charles was the son of Joseph and Nancy Cohen of London.
He came to New Zealand circa 1891 as an infant.  Still single, and a Tram Conductor, Charles, fell off the footboard of a moving Linwood tram on Saturday 2oth May 1911, suffering from concussion of the brain and other injuries.  He was taken to hospital where at first he was thought to be doing well, but died on the morning of Monday 22nd May 1911.
His memorial was erected by Tramway Board employees in Christchurch and stands in the Jewish section.
