Life Story:
George Pain was born in 1854 in Bristol, England the youngest of ten children. His father, a butcher, died when George was 14 and working as a blacksmith. In 1878, he decided to follow his older sister to Rangiora, NZ. She had arrived in 1877 and married four weeks later.
George however didn’t marry until 1884 and him
and his wife Rosamond Laura (B46P173) only appear to have had one still-born child.
George worked as a labourer in Rangiora until becoming the proprietor of the Occidental Hotel in Christchurch about 1899. He died there suddenly at the age of 50 in 1904.
