Francis James SMITH (1841-1909), S485 in G. R. Macdonald Dictionary, jeweller and watchmaker, was head of repairs at Coates and Co. Coates and Co. were in the north end of Colombo Street sort of opposite where Farmers was. This picture includes Francis SMITH. There was a Claud Thomson (or Thompson) who gave the library the G. Coates and Co. papers about 1980.
