Sir Arthur Dudley Dobson
Arthur’s father, Edward, was a prominent engineer in provincial Canterbury. His sister, Mary, married Sir Julius von Haast. In 1866 a brother, George, was murdered on the West Coast by the infamous Burgess-Kelly-Levy gang. Arthur was born on 9th September 1841. He married Eleanor Lewis (daughter of Henry Lewis who surveyed “Lewis Pass”) in April 1860. More |
