Learn how to stay safe in Christchurch’s cemeteries, give some attention to a family grave, discover a headstone’s secrets and find out about the mistakes of the past that affect the cemetery’s future. Hear how the people of Christchurch’s past shaped our lives today.

Each year we combine Neighbourhood Week and Heritage Week (when it is run) with the Anniversary of the opening of Linwood Cemetery in 1884.

Join us in remembrance of the thousands of children buried in Linwood Cemetery, Christchurch. Visit some selected grave plots of children with us and hear stories from the past about the children of early Christchurch or lay a tribute on the grave of your own ancestor.  Meet at Bromley Park Car Park, McGregor’s Road.  Then join in the CCC Children’s Day festivities in Hagley Park. Commemoration of Service Personnel Remembered in Linwood Cemetery – Sunday 22nd April 2014 (11am-12.30pm)

Linwood Cemetery, Christchurch is a public cemetery and is not designated as a Services Cemetery, yet there are over 300 services personnel commemorated in it. Join us on the Sunday before ANZAC Day, in sombre remembrance of those who gave their youth to military service.  This, now annual event, commemorates those people who gave their lives or their youth for our freedom and ensures that they are remembered at least once a year.

Follow directions from Butterfield Avenue Car Park.  Dress warmly and bring a chair, blanket and umbrella if needed.
